Manatee Springs

Watercolor on paper

5” x 7”

The gentle Florida manatee is one of the most iconic creatures in our coastal waters and its story is a powerful reminder of why we protect the places and animals we love.

After decades of hard work by conservationists, manatee numbers have rebounded from just over a thousand in the early 1990s to an estimated 8,000–11,000 manatees today, but they still remain threatened by habitat loss, boat strikes, and declining seagrass their primary food source

This watercolor piece was inspired by the serenity of their freshwater springs of Florida and these amazing creatures that inhabit them. As slow-moving herbivores, manatees spend their days grazing, surfacing for air, and navigating the waterways that mean so much to Florida’s ecosystems.

To support ongoing manatee protection and repopulation efforts, 20% of the sale of the original “Manatee Springs” will be donated to Save the Manatee club which is an award-winning national nonprofit and membership-based organization established in 1981 by Jimmy Buffett to protect manatees and their aquatic habitat for today and for future generations. 🤍
